Motivate

All week our reporters have been appearing at schools all around town giving motivational speeches. Well, they don't give the speech... They introduce the entertaining movie, featuring celebrities, who do the motivating. It's a pretty easy gig. The Prinicipal introduces the reporters, the reporters say, "hey, you should listen to this movie!," movie begins, reporters leave.

Wednesday, I took two reporters to a prairie middle school. In typical news crew form, the morning meeting lasted too long and we arrived 5 minutes late... The principal had already began the movie, but we could wait 15-20 minutes to speak at the end. Woo.

We stood in the back of the auditorium watching the movie. We learned about friends and family... love come first... helping your friends is good... being a bully is bad... My favorite part during the movie was after a clip from The Fantastic Four. There were huge flames and falling rocks and one of the four heros had put a force field around an innocent bystander to protect him. You know, typical superhero behavior. The movie voice-over preaching to the children said, "It's good to save your friends from fire and falling debris...." Because, of course, all of us can save our friends from fire and falling debris with a mysterious force field.

Eventually, the movie ended, the reporters motivated and the event was over. On the way out, one little girl asked for a signature. Smelling blood, thirty 12-year-olds swarmed the two.



I suspect that the kids didn't even know who the reporters were.



But that didn't slow them down.



Next time we get there early.
